
Healthy Brain Community Workshop Series
This Healthy Brain Community Project empowers adults to strengthen memory and cognitive health through lifestyle‑based habits, early awareness of dementia risk, and access to supportive community resources. Through a three‑part, evidence‑informed workshop series, participants learn proactive strategies for brain wellness, build meaningful connections, and gain practical tools for early detection and prevention. This community‑centered approach enhances awareness, builds long‑term resilience, and supports a healthier future for all.
7/20/26: “Sound Bowl Healing and Stress Management”
This workshop explores how stress affects the brain and body and introduces practical tools to support cognitive resilience and well-being. Participants will learn how chronic stress impacts memory, focus, mood, and sleep, and how the nervous system shifts between stress and restorative states. The session includes simple, evidence-informed practices such as breathing and mindfulness, along with sound bowl healing to promote relaxation, focus, and emotional balance. Featuring Gail Van Kanegan, holistic wellness practitioner and sound therapy expert, and Connie Iezzi, Reiki Master and holistic practitioner, specializing in sound, vibration, and somatics. The session is followed by healthy brain food samples and recipes presented by Mei Liu.

8/17/26: “Food as Medicine: Herbs, Spices and Brain-Power Foods”
Discover how everyday herbs, spices, and whole-food, plant-based nutrition can support brain health, reduce inflammation, and promote healthy aging. Featuring Gail Van Kanegan, holistic wellness practitioner and sound therapy expert, and Mei Liu, founder of Lotus Health Foundation, this interactive workshop explores herbal nourishment, healing foods, culinary synergy, and practical ways to incorporate brain-supportive ingredients into daily meals. Participants will also learn simple techniques for growing, pairing, and preserving kitchen herbs and spices for lifelong wellness.

9/21/26: “Movement for Brain Health — Including QiGong”
This workshop highlights the importance of physical activity as a cornerstone of cognitive health and dementia prevention. Participants will learn how movement improves brain function through increased blood flow, neuroplasticity, and stress reduction. The session will include an introduction to QiGong, a gentle, low-impact mind-body practice that integrates movement, breathing, and mental focus. Participants will engage in guided exercises designed to improve balance, coordination, and relaxation. In addition to QiGong, the workshop will cover practical strategies to incorporate regular physical activity into daily life, regardless of fitness level. The goal is to empower participants with simple, sustainable movement practices that support both physical and cognitive well-being. The session is followed by healthy brain food samples and recipes presented by Mei Liu.
